  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon 5 ml
  • Cinnamon powder: 1 teaspoon 5 ml
  • Nutmeg: 1/2 teaspoon 2.5 ml
  • Sugar: 1/2 cup 100 grams
  • Butter unsalted: 4 tablespoons (60 grams)
  • Raisins: 1/3 cup 50 grams

Instructions

  • Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar until well combined.
  • Take the bread slices and tear them into smaller pieces.
  • Place these bread pieces into the bowl of your milk mixture.
  • Allow it to soak for about 10 minutes. This ensures your Apple bread pudding has a nice, moist texture.
  • While the bread is soaking, peel and chop your apples into small chunks.
  • Melt the butter in a skillet on medium heat.
  • Add the apple chunks and cook until they’re just soft. This should take around 5 minutes.
  • Mix in the raisins to the skillet and stir for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Gently fold the apple and raisin mixture into your soaked bread.
  • Pour this mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading evenly.
  • Place the dish in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes or until the top turns golden brown and the pudding has set.
  • Once baked, remove the Apple bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can also add other dried fruits like cranberries or apricots for a fruity twist to your Apple bread pudding.
If you’re monitoring your sugar intake, you can reduce the sugar quantity or use a natural sweetener substitute.
The type of bread you use can change the flavor and texture. While most breads work, a day-old French bread or sourdough can give an extra edge to your pudding.
While the Apple bread pudding is warm, serve it with a dollop of low-fat vanilla yogurt or whipped cream.
A sprinkle of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup can enhance the flavor profile.
For a crunchier texture and added nutritional value, sprinkle some chia seeds or flaxseeds on top.
Pair your Apple bread pudding with a cup of green tea or black coffee for a complete dessert experience.
