Ingredients

  • - Beef: 500 grams 17.6 oz
  • - Tomatoes: 4 large ones chopped (equivalent to 400 grams or 14 oz)
  • - Onion: 1 large finely chopped
  • - Garlic: 4 cloves minced
  • - Ginger: 1 inch 2.5 cm piece, minced
  • - Curry powder: 2 teaspoons 10 mL
  • - Turmeric: 1/2 teaspoon 2.5 mL
  • - Red chili powder: 1 teaspoon 5 mL *adjust to taste*
  • - Cumin seeds: 1 teaspoon 5 mL
  • - Coriander powder: 1 teaspoon 5 mL
  • - Vegetable oil: 2 tablespoons 30 mL
  • - Water: 1 cup 240 mL
  • - Fresh cilantro for garnish: A handful, chopped
  • - Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Start by heating the vegetable oil in a large pan or pot.
  • Toss in the cumin seeds and let them sizzle until aromatic.
  • Introduce your finely chopped onions to the pan. Sauté until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  • Add in the minced garlic and ginger. Give it about 2 minutes to blend with the onions.
  • Now's the time to add your beef. Brown it well on all sides.
  • Sprinkle in your spices - the curry powder, turmeric, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Mix well to coat the beef evenly.
  • Pour in the chopped tomatoes. They'll bring a lovely tang to your curry.
  • Stir and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
  • Pour in the water, season with salt, and let your curry simmer away until the beef is tender and flavorsome.
  • Once the beef is cooked to perfection, garnish with fresh cilantro. This not only adds a pop of color but a burst of flavor as well.

Notes

1. Always use fresh spices. They elevate the flavors like nothing else.
2. For a thicker gravy, you can blend half of the tomatoes before adding them to the curry.
3. Adjust the chili to your preference. If you're a fan of heat, feel free to add more.
4. If you like a more pronounced tang, a splash of lemon juice at the end works wonders.
