Ingredients

INGREDIENTS:

  • Fresh tuna steaks: 1 pound approximately 450 grams
  • Bread crumbs: 1/2 cup approximately 120 milliliters
  • Green onions finely chopped: 2
  • Large egg: 1
  • Low sodium soy sauce: 2 tablespoons approximately 30 milliliters
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice: 1 tablespoon approximately 15 milliliters
  • Garlic cloves minced: 2
  • Black pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Olive oil for grilling: 2 tablespoons approximately 30 milliliters
  • Whole grain buns: 2
  • Lettuce tomatoes, and avocados for garnish

Instructions

HOW TO PREPARE GRILLED TUNA BURGERS:

  • Start by finely chopping the tuna steaks.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped tuna, bread crumbs, green onions, egg, soy sauce, lemon juice, minced garlic, and black pepper.
  • Mix everything well until the ingredients bind together.
  • Shape the mixture into two equal-sized burger patties.
  • Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  • Lightly brush both sides of your Grilled Tuna Burgers with olive oil.
  • Place the tuna patties on the grill.
  • Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.
  • In the last 2 minutes of grilling, you can optionally place the whole grain buns on the grill to toast them a bit.

Notes

To ensure your Grilled Tuna Burgers hold together, avoid overmixing.
Fresh is best! Opt for freshly caught tuna for optimal flavor and texture.
If you’re not a fan of the grill, these burgers can also be pan-seared.
For a spicier kick, consider adding a pinch of chili flakes to the mix.
