Ingredients

  • Whole grain cereal squares: 5 cups approx. 1200 ml
  • Peanut butter unsweetened and creamy: 1 cup (240 ml)
  • Dark chocolate chips: 1/2 cup 120 ml
  • Vanilla protein powder: 1 cup 240 ml
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder: 1/4 cup 60 ml
  • Honey or maple syrup optional for added sweetness: 3 tablespoons (45 ml)
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon 5 ml
  • Powdered sugar: 1/2 cup 120 ml

Instructions

  • Start with the basics: Lay out all your ingredients so they're easily accessible. This will make the process seamless.
  • Chocolatey fusion: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the peanut butter, dark chocolate chips, and honey/maple syrup. Microwave this in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and combined.
  • Add the vanilla: Once the peanut butter and chocolate mixture is smooth, stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Coat those squares: Pour the melted mixture over the whole grain cereal squares in a large mixing bowl. Gently fold everything together, ensuring the cereal squares are well-coated.
  • Power up with protein: In a separate large Ziploc bag or container with a lid, combine the vanilla protein powder, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar.
  • Shake it up: Add the chocolate-coated cereal to the bag or container, seal it, and shake well until each piece is covered with the protein powder mixture.
  • Cooling time: Let the Protein Puppy Chow sit for about 10-15 minutes to cool and set.

Notes

Storage: Protein Puppy Chow can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Though, let's be real, it probably won’t last that long!
Variation: Feel free to use different flavors of protein powder if vanilla isn't your thing.
Healthy swap: Instead of powdered sugar, you can use a stevia-based powdered sweetener for a lower-calorie option.
Go a la mode: Pair your Protein Puppy Chow with some Greek yogurt for a delightful protein-rich dessert.
Mix-ins: Throw in some dried fruits or nuts for an added crunch and flavor.
Breakfast option: Consider this Protein Puppy Chow as a crunchy topping for your oatmeal or smoothie bowl in the morning. It's a great way to kickstart your day with a protein punch!
