Ingredients

  • - Tofu firm: 1 block (14 oz or 400g)
  • - Olive oil: 2 tablespoons 30ml
  • - Red pepper flakes: 1 teaspoon 5ml
  • - Sesame seeds: 2 tablespoons 30ml
  • - Fresh ginger grated: 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • - Garlic cloves minced: 3
  • - Soy sauce: 3 tablespoons 45ml
  • - Lime juice: 1 tablespoon 15ml
  • - Brown sugar: 1 teaspoon 5ml
  • - Green onions chopped: 2
  • - Cilantro chopped: A handful
  • - Water: 2 tablespoons 30ml

Instructions

  • Begin by pressing your tofu for at least 20 minutes to release excess water.
  • In a bowl, mix together olive oil, red pepper flakes, half of the sesame seeds, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, lime juice, and brown sugar to form a marinade.
  • Cut the tofu into slices and generously brush each slice with the marinade.
  • Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 10 minutes, soaking up the flavors.
  • Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat.
  • Grill the tofu slices for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until grill marks appear.
  • As the tofu grills, whisk together the remaining sesame seeds, water, and half of the chopped green onions in a separate bowl to create the sesame seed dressing.
  • Once the tofu is grilled to perfection, transfer it to a plate.
  • Generously drizzle the sesame seed dressing over the grilled tofu.

Notes

1. For extra flavor, let the tofu marinate for an extended period, preferably overnight.
2. Avoid using extra soft tofu as it may crumble on the grill.
3. For an additional tangy twist, sprinkle some lemon zest over the Spicy Grilled Tofu before serving.
