Ingredients

  • - Beef: 1 lb 450g
  • - Onions: 2 medium-sized finely chopped
  • - Breadcrumbs: 1/2 cup 120 ml
  • - Milk: 1/4 cup 60 ml
  • - Egg: 1
  • - Salt: 1 tsp 5 ml
  • - Black pepper: 1/2 tsp 2.5 ml
  • - Butter: 2 tbsp 30 ml for frying
  • - Water: 1/2 cup 120 ml for the sauce

Instructions

  • Start by taking a large mixing bowl.
  • In this bowl, combine beef, half of the chopped onions, breadcrumbs, milk, and the egg.
  • Season your mixture with salt and pepper, ensuring it's mixed well.
  • Now, shape your mixture into 4 even-sized patties.
  • Take a skillet or frying pan and melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Once the butter is shimmering, add your Swedish Beef Patties Onions to the skillet.
  • Fry each side for about 5 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown.
  • Remove the patties and set them aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining onions and let them sauté until translucent.
  • Pour water into the skillet, stirring to create a rich onion sauce.
  • Place the patties back into the skillet, covering them with the onion sauce.
  • Allow everything to simmer together for another 10 minutes.

Notes

  1. While forming your Swedish Beef Patties Onions, ensure they’re compact so they don’t fall apart during frying.
  2. Using lean beef cuts can make your patties less greasy.
  3. For an extra depth of flavor, consider adding a hint of nutmeg or allspice to the patty mixture.
  4. If your onion sauce becomes too thick, feel free to add a splash more water to reach your desired consistency.
