Ingredients

  • - Ground turkey: 1 lb 450 grams
  • - Teriyaki sauce: ½ cup 120 ml
  • - Fresh ginger grated: 1 tsp (5 ml)
  • - Garlic minced: 2 cloves
  • - Green onions finely chopped: 2
  • - Whole wheat burger buns: 4
  • - Lettuce leaves: 4
  • - Tomato sliced: 1
  • - Red onion thinly sliced: ½
  • - Olive oil: 1 tbsp 15 ml

Method

  1. Prepping the Patty Mix
    - Start by combining your ground turkey, teriyaki sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and finely chopped green onions in a large mixing bowl.
    - Mix everything until it’s well-combined.
  2. Forming Your Patties
    - Divide your burger mixture into 4 even sections.
    - Using your hands, shape each section into a patty, roughly about ¾-inch thick.
  3. Cooking Time!
    - Warm up a skillet or grill over medium heat.
    - Drizzle or brush the surface with your olive oil.
Once heated, place your turkey patties onto the skillet or grill.
    - Cook each side for about 7 minutes, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  4. - A couple of minutes before they're done, glaze each patty with some extra teriyaki sauce for that rich, flavorful finish.
  5. Assembling the Teriyaki Turkey Burger
  6. - Lay open your whole wheat burger buns.
  7. - On the bottom half, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a slice of tomato and a couple of slices of red onion.
    - Place your cooked turkey patty on top.
  8. - Drizzle with a bit more teriyaki sauce if you wish, and then cap it off with the top half of the bun.

Notes

1. Want a little crunch? Add some thinly sliced cucumber for a refreshing bite.
2. If you're looking to kick the spice up a notch, consider adding a small amount of chili flakes to your patty mix.
3. Don't rush the cooking process. Letting your Teriyaki Turkey Burger cook slowly ensures it stays juicy and flavorful.
4. Always opt for low-sodium teriyaki sauce to keep things health-friendly.
