Ingredients

  • Tofu: 14 oz 400 grams
  • Olive oil: 2 tablespoons 30 ml
  • Lime: 1 juiced and zested
  • Red chili flakes: 1 teaspoon 5 grams
  • Garlic cloves: 2 finely minced
  • Cumin: ½ teaspoon 2.5 grams
  • Paprika: ½ teaspoon 2.5 grams
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon 2.5 grams
  • Fresh cilantro coriander: ¼ cup (15 grams), chopped
  • Lime wedges: for serving

Instructions

  • Begin by pressing the tofu for at least 15 minutes. This will help remove excess water, making your tofu ready for grilling.
  • While the tofu is pressing, mix together olive oil, lime juice, lime zest, red chili flakes, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, and salt in a bowl.
  • Slice the pressed tofu into even ½ inch (1.3 cm) thick slices.
  • Gently marinate the tofu slices in the spicy lime mixture, ensuring all sides are well coated. Let them sit for at least 10 minutes.
  • Preheat your grill over medium-high heat.
  • Once hot, place your marinated tofu slices on the grill. Grill each side for 4-5 minutes or until you see gorgeous grill marks.
  • Remove the grilled tofu slices from the grill and sprinkle with fresh chopped cilantro.

Notes

For an extra firm texture, freeze the tofu overnight and then thaw it before pressing. This gives the tofu a meatier consistency.
The longer you marinate, the deeper the flavor! If you have time, let the tofu marinate for a few hours or overnight in the fridge.
For a smokier taste, consider using a charcoal grill.
Always oil your grill grates before placing the tofu to avoid sticking.
Place the spicy grilled tofu on a plate and squeeze some fresh lime over the top. The extra zest takes the flavor to the next level!
Consider pairing with a light, crisp salad or some grilled veggies. This will balance out the spicy kick of the tofu.
A side of brown rice or quinoa works wonders, adding an extra layer of texture and flavor.
And of course, don’t forget to garnish with extra lime wedges and a sprinkle of cilantro. Every bite should be a burst of spicy, tangy joy!
